Several major attractions have been added to the ninth annual Hyde Park Jazz Festival, running Sept. 26 and 27 in several locations.
Pianist Laurence Hobgood will play a solo set; trumpeter Russ Johnson will lead a new group, convened for the festival; Prashant Bhargava's "Radhe Rahde: Rites of Holi" will be screened in homage to the Chicago born-and-raised filmmaker, who died in May at age 42.
Also added to the schedule: trumpeters Corey Wilkes and Pharez Whitted, saxophonists John Wojciechowski and Ari Brown, the Fat Babies and Whirlpool with Ron Miles.
These and other attractions augment a lineup that already included Henry Threadgill with David Virelles, Dana Hall with Nick Mazzarella, Geof Bradfield with Jeff Parker, Regina Carter with Xavier Davis and world premieres by Ambrose Akinmusire, Tomeka Reid and Mikel Patrick Avery.
