PAUL GIALLORENZO TRIO

The Paul Giallorenzo Trio plays original music that swings in the direction of Duke, Monk, Sun Ra, Emahoy, and Haasan, with a post-free approach and modern sensibility. The trio has released two albums—Flow (2018) and Play (2023)—on Chicago’s Delmark label.

Paul Giallorenzo

Originally from Long Island, New York, Paul Giallorenzo is now a Chicago-based improviser, composer, and producer who uses piano and electronics in a diverse range of contexts and with a wide array of local and international musicians. He works in improvised, avant-jazz, experimental, and electro/acoustic music and performs regularly in Chicago and throughout North America and Europe.

Giallorenzo’s work has been praised for its “inside-out” nature that “smudges the lines between the tradition and the avant-garde” (All About Jazz), highlighting Giallorenzo’s ability to push the boundaries of conventional jazz while also bringing a measure of structure to more avant-garde material.

His current working projects as a co-leader include the Paul Giallorenzo Trio, Hearts & Minds (with Jason Stein and Chad Taylor), and RedGreenBlue (with Ryan Packard, Ben LaMar Gay, and Charlie Kirchen).

Giallorenzo is also the artistic director of the intermedia arts organization Homeroom and a co-founder and programmer of the music venue/art gallery Elastic Arts, which has produced hundreds of creative music concerts and art events in Chicago since 2001.
