Adegoke Steve Colson is a pianist, composer, saxophonist, and educator who performs internationally, both as a soloist and as leader of ensembles ranging from trios to orchestras. His projects have featured innovators such as Reggie Workman, David Murray, Henry Threadgill, Malachi Favors, Anthony Davis, Andrew Cyrille, and Tyshawn Sorey, and he has collaborated with master artists including poet/activist Amiri Baraka, dancer Carmen de Lavallade, and visual artist Willie Cole. 

Colson is a decorated composer, having received commissions from Meet the Composer, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the NEA, and Absolute Jazz, among others, and his compositions for small ensembles have been recorded by pivotal artists including bassist Richard Davis, pianist John Hicks, and trumpeter/composer Hannibal. 

He recently premiered two works: Incandescence (2021), commissioned by American Composers Forum, and Suite Harlem (2022), part of the South Arts Jazz Road initiative supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. His Harvard Fromm Commission composition, Mirrors, will premiere this fall with the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE).

Colson is currently artist-in-residence in Jazz Studies at the Cicely L. Tyson School of Performing & Fine Arts. He gives occasional lectures on music and history, and is also a Professor in the Bloomfield College Creative Arts & Technology Department. He co-owns recording label Silver Sphinx with his wife and musical partner, Iqua.
