What was planned as a one-week residency in Cuba at the end of 2014 for ORBERT DAVIS and musicians of the CHICAGO JAZZ PHILHARMONIC (CJP) with the student orchestra of Universidad de las Artes turned into an historic experience as the US and Cuba announced normalization of diplomatic relations. During that week, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Co-Founders Orbert Davis and Mark Ingram and several CJP musicians found themselves in a new day for Cuban-American relations and part of a prime time news feature on CBS’s 60 Minutes. This laid the groundwork for an upcoming full-length documentary that will provide a glimpse into modern-day Cuba, the music, the people, and its ever-evolving future. ORBERT DAVIS, MARK INGRAM, BIRDIE SOTI, and CJP musicians STEVE EISEN and STEWART MILLER will screen excerpts from the documentary and offer a behind-the-scenes look at their experience. Through these video stories, you’ll meet those involved in the developing Cuban and American relationship--many of whom hope to come to Chicago this November 2015 to participate in a Chicago Jazz Philharmonic performance at the historic Auditorium Theatre.
