Isaiah Collier’s latest work—a suite entitled THE STORY OF 400 YEARS—sonically illustrates the complexities of the African Diaspora, serving as a reminder both of the cruel origins of our nation and of the mixed truths upon which it was founded. Throughout and despite the various horrors to which they have been subjected, people of African descent have not only survived—but, in fact, established, enlivened, and authored large swaths of U.S. culture. The Story of 400 Years acts as a time machine, to reveal that the long, unseemly histories of our nation may still be playing themselves out.

An alumnus of ChiArts and the Jazz Institute of Chicago, ISAIAH COLLIER has been playing around the Chicagoland area for four years, and with artists including Stefon Harris, Roy McCurty, Carmen Bradford, Ernest Dawkins, Bennie Maupin, Ari Brown, Robert Irving III, and others. He has performed at events such as the International Jazz Day Fest, Englewood Jazz Festival, and Monterey Jazz Festival.
