Peoria born saxophonist and composer, GREG WARD, has performed with musical greats including Von Freeman, Frank Wess, Al Jarreau, Carl Allen, Rufus Reid, Jeff Parker, Brian McNight and Hamid Drake, and has toured the world from Peru, Singapore, Guam, and Japan, to Italy, Switzerland, France, and South Africa. He has also been featured at festivals including Ravinia, Sons d’ Hiver, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Fest, Vision Festival in NYC, and the Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival in Montreal.

Described by Peter Margasak as “one of the most versatile jazz musicians of his generation, with a deep-seated curiosity that drives him to push himself into new territory,” Greg moved to the Southside from New York to be part of the Chicago jazz scene. He got the idea for his album, Touch My Beloved's Thought, from a line of poetry on the cover of the 1963 Charles Mingus album, The Black Saint and the Sinner. Greg’s tentet, 10 TONGUES, originally premiered Touch My Beloved’s Thought with a complement of dancers at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. He has re-crafted his work for performance by instruments alone. Playing in 10 TONGUES are composer and alto saxophonist GREG WARD; TIM HALDEMAN, tenor saxophone; KEEFE JACKSON, tenor and baritone saxophones; NORMAN PALM, trombone; CHRISTOPHER DAVIS, bass trombone; BEN LAMAR GAY, cornet; RUSS JOHNSON, trumpet; DENNIS LUXION, piano; MATT ULERY, bass; MARCUS EVANS, drums.
