The Ernie Adams Percussiontet
Saturday, September 29, 2:30-3:30PM
Drummer/percussionist ERNIE ADAMS has sustained an incredible career playing with the likes of jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie, Ahmad Jamal, and Stanley Turrentine; Latin giants Arturo Sandoval, Claudio Roditi, and Paquito D’Rivera; fusion masters Al DiMeola, Anthony Jackson, and Joe Zawinul; and contemporary jazz icons Al Jarreau, Randy Brecker, and Ramsey Lewis. He has played in more than forty-five countries, and feels equally at home playing hip-hop, folkloric music, with orchestras, and on movie scores. In addition to maintaining a busy schedule of gigs, recording sessions, and a monthly short tour, Adams also teaches drums at University of Illinois at Chicago; Jazz Institute of Chicago; Ravinia; Discover Music, Discover Life; and the Music Institute of Chicago.
Ernie is joined by composer and saxophonist TOM GULLION, who spent his early career as a part of J.J. Johnson’s newly reconstituted quintet, which also featured Cedar Walton, Rufus Reid, and Victor Lewis. Gullion subsequently returned to school to complete his studies; then toured the world performing; then spent some time living and working in Spain; all before returning to the U.S., where he immersed himself in the creative music scene and eventually settled in rural Wisconsin.
The musicians are: ERNIE ADAMS (world percussion); TOM GULLION (saxophones and flutes); JUNIUS PAUL (acoustic bass).
