ERIC HOTCHKISS is an interdisciplinary designer, engineer, and educator currently based in Chicago. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Master’s of Designed Object from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This cross-pollination among fields provides Hotchkiss a unique perspective on design. Having worked in so many areas of design, ranging from medical devices and consumer electronics to fashion and home furnishings, Hotchkiss has had the opportunity to create many everyday cultural artifacts that shape our lives today. Hotchkiss strives to produce objects that are both discursive and subversive in nature. His work has been exhibited at the Chicago Cultural Center, Salone del Mobile Milano, and Connect Gallery.
In 2016, Hotchkiss co-founded Made in Englewood, an interdisciplinary design studio that creates objects that are culturally-relative and driven by the narratives of the community in which they reside.
