Maggie and Africa Brown: 2 Brown Sisters Swingin' Hyde Park
Sunday, September 24
A protégé of both her father, Oscar Brown Jr., and Abbey Lincoln, MAGGIE BROWN has developed a singular style that James Walker of JazzChicago.net describes as “transcend[ing] limitations and genres, while still maintaining her unique, unmistakable voice.” She is a Chicago native who studied music, theater, and voice at Columbia College and made her professional acting and singing debut at the Body Politic Theater. Maggie has performed at Chicago venues as diverse as the House of Blues, Old Town School of Folk Music, Ravinia Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, and Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, as well as in New York, Philadelphia, Denver, Atlanta, and Poland, among other places. Maggie will be joined by her sister AFRICA BROWN as well as ALEXIS LOMBRE on piano, JUNIUS PAUL on bass, and GREG ARTRY on drums.
