Saturday, September 24, 3:00-4:00pm
Inspired by tapes and records left behind by his grandfather, trumpeter QUENTIN COAXUM developed his passion for music. A graduate of Northern Illinois University and a candidate for a Masters of Music at Northwestern University, Quentin maintains a busy schedule of teaching and performing throughout the Midwest. He has performed at the Chi-Town Jazz Fest and as a featured artist in the Jazz Institute of Chicago’s NextGen Jazz Series. In the summer of 2014, Quentin released his debut album, Current, on the Skiptone Music Label, available on iTunes. As a performer, Quentin has garnered praise for his ability to compose and perform with modern lyricism while also displaying knowledge of jazzʼs rich tradition. His musical voice reaches across genres, affording him the opportunity to perform with many world-class musicians, some of whom include Jimmy Heath, Robin Eubanks, Victor Goines, Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Louis Bellson, and Lew Soloff. The Quintet includes QUENTIN COAXUM, trumpet; DUSTIN LAURENZI, tenor saxophone; STU MINDEMAN, piano; ANDREW VOGT, bass; and MARCUS EVANS, drums.
